The 34th annual Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival returns Saturday and Sunday, offering two days of fresh seafood, live music and coastal celebration on Newport’s historic waterfront.

Sixty of the nation’s top sailors will guide 37-inch carbon fiber sailboats across the water at Sail Newport this weekend, competing in the DragonFlite 95 National Championship through Sunday.

Bob Wyss, a former reporter for The Providence Journal, will explore coal’s legacy at an event at Charter Books this evening.

ICYMI: Newport’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for Oct. 25, has been canceled due to the federal government shutdown, according to the Newport Prevention Coalition.
