It’s that time of the year. Newport’s paid parking and residential sticker programs take effect today (May 1). The city shared the following helpful reminders;
“If you’re visiting or are new to town, please note that Newport resident parking stickers may be required for on-street parking in neighborhoods located throughout the City. Please be sure to check signage before you park for permit requirements and hours.
Paid meter parking is also in effect.
As a reminder, Newport residents are encouraged to take advantage of 3 hours of free parking at the Mary Street Lot every day during paid parking season!
And beginning in mid-May, Newport Residents will also be eligible for 3 hours of metered parking at all metered spaces, with 2 hours of free parking available until then!
In addition to utilizing a network of smart parking kiosks, motorists using the City’s paid parking spaces will also be able to pay directly from their smartphone by downloading the Passport Mobile App. Residents are encouraged to download the free app via the City’s website at www.CityofNewport.com/Parking or by searching for the Passport App on their mobile device’s app store.
Once the application is downloaded, users are asked to create an account, select the zone number that is posted on nearby signage and enter the vehicle license plate number. Users can then view their parking history and extend their sessions with the tap of a button”.
